TUFAN BALTALAR

Tufan Baltalar (b.1972) graduated from Dokuz Eylül University from the department of Fine Arts in 1994.

Baltalar who regards paintings and sculptures as elements of a long lasting project, is mainly interested in the accumulation of his work. He holds the opinion that the whole body of all these pieces together comprises constituents that may be utilized to grasp what an ‘individual’ is. He turns everyday materials into unlikely forms and textures through techniques he improved in the course of time. Rather than focusing on the outcome, he prefers to underline the paths and traces to follow so as to get to the desired result. Among his works may be cited incomplete or fragmented moments/individuals, a small plot of land covered with bushes, and the rustling sounds amidst silence. Although his work transforms through new experimentations he renders each piece familiar by integrating his own face and body into the production process.

The artist who opened solo exhibitions titled Stand by (2015), In between (2012), Viewing Terrace (Outlet Gallery, 2010) participated in numerous group exhibitions. Among them are "Summer Resort for a Song" (Depo, 2014), "Spirit of Paper" (ALAN İstanbul, 2014), "Eyeballing" (Çağdaş Sanatlar Merkezi, Ankara, 2012), "When Ideas Become Crime" (Depo, 2010), "Emergency Exit" (Outlet, 2008), "Be a realist, demand impossible" (Karşı Sanat, 2007), Plastic Tree Volume I (Dirimart, 2007), "Air Pocket" (Galerist, 2007), "Alis vs. Alis" (Kasa Gallery, 2005), "A Little Break" (K2, Izmir, 2005), "The Little, the Cheap, the Trash but Absolutely Passionate" (Hiap Studios, Helsinki, 2005), "Rainbow and Boredom" (Akbank Art Gallery, 2004).

The artist lives and works in Izmir.
